It happens to the best of us, either we didn't eat enough before hand or just don't have the right sugar levels before picking a strong cigar and settling in to enjoy it.
That dizzy, sick and lite-headed feeling...
For as long as I can remember, I have been dishing out one reliable piece of cigar-enjoyment advice; have Coke nearby!
And yes that normally comes quickly with a "coke-a-cola and not the Columbian marching powder" qualification...
As I get older (when did that happen) I realise I cannot go 12 hours without food anymore, I also realise I feel the affects of a strong cigar like a Sin Compromiso or a Tatuaje Reserva Nicaragua.
These cigars I enjoy, a lot - but if you haven't had a meal before hand, they can be a roller coaster ride that isn't always fun.
Now yes, some of you have a fortitude like no-other and can power through these and not have any issues; well you my friends are lucky!
For the rest of us, I do find a can of Coke does the trick, or if you are like Bruce and Russell and countless others, rum + coke or bourbon + coke also works a bloody charm.
Cigar Aficionado magazine has an alternative tip...
The best way is to take a packet or two of sugar, put it on the back of your tongue, and drink a glass of water. It helps quite a bit. Smoking on a full stomach can be helpful as well.
To be honest, that doesn't sound that appealing at all...
They also then go on to say maybe smoking mild cigars is better for you; again, that doesn't sound like much fun either...
