The latest updates regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus) impact on Canteros New Zealand

Fuente Fuente Opus X review by Don José

Following on from my mailer today, tonight I will be reviewing the

Fuente Fuente Opus X

by the outstanding Arturo Fuente.

If this is your first time here, my reviews rate each cigar on 10 factors and each factor gets a rating out of 10 giving me an overall out of 100. The 10 factors are: Construction, Draw, Burn, Flavour, 1/3 overall, 2/3 overall, 3/3 overall, Journey (how well it flows), Value for money and Overall Enjoyment.
Ok, so let’s take a look at how this stick is put together.

Brand Arturo Fuente
 Size Perfecxion #2 Belicoso
Dominican Republic
Cuban-seed Corojo, Dominican grown
In 2014, Cigar Aficionado ranked the Opus X Perfecxion X in its ‘Top 10 Cigars of the Year.’ In 2005, Fuente Fuente Opus X Double Corona took home the ‘#1 Cigar of the Year’ title. Over the past 25yrs the blend has scored dozens of sky-high ratings and rankings and is regarded by many to be one of the best cigars ever produced.
No cigar has had quite the impact on the premium cigar industry as the Fuente Fuente Opus X.
Since its debut in 1995, the cigar has had a cult following that makes it a rare find. Some retailers even limit purchases or horde stock for their top customers. The brand has been the subject of more than one lawsuit and the target of many counterfeiters.
So why the hype?
Lets start with A little about the wrapper itself. The Corojo Cuban-seed wrappers define the Opus X blend. It is very rare for farmers in the Dominican Republic to grow wrapper leaf for premium cigars because it is difficult to get good wrapper from Dominican soil. It was even once believed impossible until Carlos “Carlito” Fuente Jr. planted 37 acres of Cuban seeds in the Dominican Republic during the early 1990's and set out to prove everyone wrong.

Additionally, Fuente doesn’t sell any tobacco from his Chateau de la Fuente farm, so the only cigars made with leaf from those fields are made by Fuente, "The day I do that, people are going to start saying that their cigars have the same wrappers as Opus X. I'm not giving anyone that opportunity.” so whatever isn’t used gets destroyed.
So its fair to say that rarity is a contributor to its appeal, but that can't be the only reason. Many rare cigars exist but just being rare doesn't get you to the #1 cigar of the year so lets take a look at how it stacks up.
Construction   10/10
Burn 10/10
Draw 9/10
Flavour  10/10
Complexity  9/10
Strength 85%
First 1/3 9/10
Second 1/3 9/10
Third 1/3 10/10
Construction & Burn
Flawless construction. Smother wrapper than you might expect but outstanding quality. Burn is also perfect, even on a very cold night here in Wanaka.

Flavour & Complexity
The flavours in this cigar are OUTSTANDING! Cocoa, coffee, spices, caramel, leather, nutmeg, nougat, and wood!
Mid-Full to Full, its actually rather surprisingly bold, I was expecting more medium through and through but presently surprised by its punch.
Its clear to see what all the hype is about. This cigar is an absolute masterpiece and deserves much of the acclaim it gets. I rate this cigar 96 points! A place only claimed by 1 maybe 2 other cigars in my time reviewing. It is a must try for any cigar fan.
